2011 NFL Outside Linebacker Rankings- Preseason

Outside linebacker Shaun Phillips #95 of the San Diego Chargers defends against the Denver Broncos at INVESCO Field at Mile High on January 2, 2011 in Denver, Colorado. The Chargers defeated the Broncos 33-28.
Shaun Phillips
Top 20
20 Keith Rivers, Cincinnati Bengals
19 Jarret Johnson, Baltimore Ravens
18 Calvin Pace, New York Jets
17 Sean Witherspoon, Atlanta Falcons
16 Kamerion Wimbley, Oakland Raiders
15 Daryl Smith, Jackonsville Jaguars
14 Koa Misi, Miami Dolphins
13 Shaun Phillips, San Diego Chargers
12 Anthony Spencer, Dallas Cowboys
11 Chad Greenway, Minnesota Vikings

Outside linebacker is a dangerous position. They can get after the quarterback, contain a running back and make those game changing plays. Most of the guys outside the top 10 are simply not as consistent at making those key plays.

Elvis Dumervil
Top 10
10 Brian Orakpo, Washington Redskins
9 Elvis Dumervil, Denver Broncos
8 Lance Briggs, Chicago Bears
7 Cameron Wake, Miami Dolphins
6 Terrell Suggs, Baltimore Ravens
5 Tamba Hali, Kansas City Chiefs
4 LaMarr Woodley, Pittsburgh Steelers

All of these guys are thrilling to watch play. They rack up the sack totals, make key interceptions and force the offense to account for them at all times. One guy to watch is Elvis Dumbervil, who after missing all of last season due to injury is back and looking to return to his pro bowl form. I'm also not looking forward to the Patriots having to deal with Cameron Wake two times this season.

Top 3
3 James Harrison, Pittsburhg Steelers
2 Clay Matthews, Green Bay Packers
1 Demarcus Ware, Dallas Cowboys

James Harrison, Clay Matthews and Demarcus Ware are three of the best players in the NFL. I wouldn't be surprised if any one of these guys is the defensive player of the year this year, that is how good they are. The reason why I have Ware at one is because he is a little bit more consistent that Matthews and is less prone to screw up his teams chemistry that Harrison.
