2011 NFL Wide Receiver Rankings- Preseason

Rookie Wide Receiver Rankings
5 Vincent Brown, San Diego Chargers
4 Randall Cobb, Green Bay Packers
3 Titus Young, Detroit Lions
2 Julio Jones, Atlanta Falcons
1 A.J. Green, Cincinnati Bengals

This receiver class was top heavy, with A.J. Green and Julio Jones both taken in the top six. We know that Green and Jones have the potential to be big time receivers, but I also believe that guys like Titus Young, Randall Cobb and Vincent Brown can have as much impact as Green and Jones have this year. I am very high on this rookie receiver class.

Davone Bess
Top 40
40 Austin Collie, Indianapolis Colts
39 Malcolm Floyd, San Diego Chargers
38 Mike Williams, Seattle Seahawks
37 Danny Armendola, St. Louis Rams
36 Pierre Garcon, Indianapolis Colts
35 Anthony Armstrong, Washington Redskins
34 Jabar Gaffney, Denver Broncos
33 Lance Moore, New Orleans Saints
32 Davone Bess, Miami Dolphins
31 Johnny Knox, Chicago Bears

We see a lot of quality wide receiver from 31-40. You have your guys that our very good possession receivers like austin Collie and Jabar Gaffney, those deep threats such as Malcolm Floyd and Mike Williams and the guys that can do almost anything such as Davone Bess and Pierre Garcon.

Top 30
Anquan Boldin
30 Terrell Owens, Free Agent
29 Percy Harvin, Minnesota Vikings
28 Kenny Britt, Tennessee Titans
27 Mike Sims-Walker, St. Louis Rams
26 Braylon Edwards, San Francisco 49ers
25 Santana Moss, Washington Redskins
24 Chad Ochocinco, New England Patriots
23 Mario Manningham, New York Giants
22 Sidney Rice, Seattle Seahawks
21 Anquan Boldin, Baltimore Ravens

Any of the guys from 30-21 are capable of taking games over but for the most part, they lack the consistency of the top 20 guys. A guy like Braylon Edwards is very good, but is up and down to dramatically. Then you have your one year wonders like Sidney Rice and Mike Sims-Walker and your aging yet still productive veterans like Chad Ochocinco, Santana Moss and Terrell Owens. The biggest surprise here is Anquan Boldin, who was a top 10 receiver for most of his time in Arizona, but slipped last season. He is one of the many players looking to have a bounce back season.

Top 20
Miles Austin Miles Austin #19 of the Dallas Cowboys runs the ball against the Philadelphia Eagles on January 2, 2011 at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Miles Austin
20 Brandon Marshall, Miami Dolphins
19 Steve Johnson, Buffalo Bills
18 Jeremy Maclin, Philadelphia Eagles
17 Mike Williams, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
16 Santonio Holmes, New York Jets
15 Brandon Lloyd, Denver Broncos
14 Marques Colston, New Orleans Saints
13 Wes Welker, New England Patriots
12 Miles Austin, Dallas Cowboys
11 Mike Wallace, Pittsburgh Steelers

All of these guys are big time players. Brandon Marshall was a top 5 guy. Santonio Holmes was a Super Bowl MVP. Brandon Lloyd led the league in yards last year. These guys are high caliber players.

Calvin Johnson
Top 10
10 Vincent Jackson, San Diego Chargers
9 DeSean Jackson, Philadelphia Eagles
8 Hakeem Nicks, New York Giants
7 Dwayne Bowe, Kansas City Chiefs
6 Calvin Johnson, Detroit Lions

5 Reggie Wayne, Indianapolis Colts
4 Greg Jennings, Green Bay Packers
3 Roddy White, Atlanta Falcons
2 Larry Fitzgerald, Arizona Cardinals
1 Andre Johnson, Houston Texans

You can't go wrong with any of the guys in the top 10. But Andre Johnson is the best of the best. He is a deep threat, he is a possession receiver, he can do it all and do it all better than anyone. He is the best target in the NFL and has been for some time now. That being said, don't be surprised if Larry Fitzgerald bounces back and returns to his dominant form in the 2008 playoffs.
